In his youth, Neeraj was shorter than his peers and engaged in various activities such as running and basketball to help increase his height. He actively participated in school-level races, competing in distances of 800, 1000, and 1500 meters.

Initially, Neeraj did not enjoy running and basketball, which led him to take up boxing to build strength in anticipation of potential conflicts. His serious journey in boxing commenced when he joined the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune in 2006.

In 2017, Neeraj shot a boxing scene for the film “Mukkabaz” and later appeared in Farhan Akhtar’s Bollywood film “Toofan” in 2021. Additionally, he choreographed action sequences and trained actors like Ram Charan for “RRR” and Varun Tej for “Ghani.”

Neeraj quickly rose to prominence, clinching a gold medal at the Youth Nationals in 2008. His winning streak continued with medals at the 2011 National Games and the 2012 National Championships, and he also competed in the World Military Games in Brazil in 2011.
